Disneyland Railroad and Rivers of America to Reopen in Summer 2017

Rivers of America
RIVERS OF AMERICA -- As part of an ongoing, planned expansion at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., the Rivers of America at Disneyland Park will receive a brand-new waterfront, just outside the location of the new Star Wars-themed land. The new riverbank will also feature an elevated trestle over which the iconic Disneyland Resort Railroad will travel. (Disney Parks)

Looks like Disneyland is going to be the place to be during the summer of 2017. Not only well there be a newly re-imagined ride at Disney California Adventure but several attractions will once again be opening back up at Disneyland.

Disney finally announced a re-opening date for the several attractions that were closed earlier this year to begin construction on Star Wars Land. The Disneyland Railroad along with the Rivers of America will be reopening in summer 2017. Included in those re-openings are Fantasmic, Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship ColumbiaPirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes.

They will be opening up on a re-imagined Rivers of America, which will boast in all new riverbank on the backside and an elevated trestle over which the Disneyland Railroad will travel. We got an early glimpse of what the new Rivers of America would look like when they released concept art earlier this year.

There were many Disney fans who were not happy about the Disneyland Resort re-routing the river and taking portions of Tom Sawyer Island away for the Star Wars section of the park. I however think that despite the river being shorter that the new look of what the concept art shows versus what had been there is going to be a plus for the park.

Till the Rivers of America open back up you can still check out the Disneyland Railroad at the Main Street and New Orleans Square stations to get an up-close look at the steam engines.
