Mako roller coaster makes first test run at SeaWorld

Mako

SeaWorld Orlando began testing its latest ride this week, one that will be sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Mako which will make its debut on June 10 will be the tallest, fastest, and longest coaster in Orlando.

The coaster had a topping off ceremony back in January when they placed the last piece of track at its crest that measures 200 feet from the ground. The testing phase has now begun on the ride and the coaster car had its inaugural run plunging 200 ft down the initial lift hill reaching 73 mph and surging through nine air-time hills.

The rollercoaster was named for the Mako shark, one of the ocean’s fastest known shark. That reality inspired the designers of the coaster, as guest will experience some tight turns and speeds just like that of the Mako which can change course quickly as they pursue the their prey. Guest will be submerged into that ocean world and feel what its like to be in the thrill of the hunt.

“On Mako you’ll experience what it’s like to be this apex predator, surging through the water at top speed and chasing prey throughout a massive reef,” said Brian Morrow, SeaWorld’s Senior Director, Development & Design. “It will be a wild mix of fear, thrills and fun.”

Mako is a hypercoaster and considered by many to me the essence of what is extreme in the rollercoaster world. This new coaster at SeaWorld Orlando will provide near weightless “air time” as it speeds through its multiple tall hills.
