Disney Infinity is moving away from annual releases

Disney Infinity

There will be some changes when it comes to Disney’s Infinity gaming as this will be the first year that they will not release a starter pack.  The gaming experience which was launched in 2013 brings toys to life and has released a new game each year introducing a new Disney property.

The company announced though today that they will instead focus on releasing updates and support for all of Disney’s major theatrical releases as well as releasing new figures and play sets. The company plans to launch four play sets this year  representing Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

“If it’s happening at Disney, it’s going to be happening in Disney Infinity,” says John Vignocchi, vice president of production for Disney Infinity. The development strategy was changed for 2016 “in order to meet community feedback we’ve had as well as market demand.”

The first new play set is called Marvel Battlegrounds, and it adds arcade-style multiplayer to the game.

Two new figures, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia will be out in stores today, along with four new Power Discs.

Not long after Zootopia comes to theaters on March 4, Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of the classic Disney animated film, The Jungle Book will open. To mark the occasion, we wanted to go back into the Disney vaults and celebrate the animated classics that started it all by bringing Baloo, one of our favorite characters, into the game.
