High School Musical 4 set at Disney Channel, casting underway

Well Wildcats it looks like it about time to put on your jersey because Disney Channel has just confirmed that after 10 years High School Musical 4 is underway as casting has begun. The worldwide phenomenon just marked its 10 years with a special celebration of the original film. 

A nationwide casting search began today on the story that will continue  the global sensation High School Musical—and introduce new East High Wildcats and their cross-town school rivals, the West High Knights.

Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ —as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the ‘High School Musical’ franchise.”

DGA Award nominee Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie, Teen Beach 2) is attached to direct and choreograph the movie.

The original High School Musical ended up launching the careers of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale among others. It also spawned two sequels that in itself broke several records. High School Musical 2, broke records when it made its debut, becoming the most watched TV movie of all time with 17.3 million viewers. The third film was a theatrical release and ended up becoming the biggest opening day for a musical film a title it held until 2012, it grosses over $250 million dollars at the Box Office.
