The 9th season of 3D Theatricals season comes to an end with their production of Mamma Mia! This is the perfect way to end the summer, fun with friends and family all while enjoying this top notch production of Mamma Mia! Under the leadership of T.J. Dawson, this jukebox musical features a diverse cast of characters and brand new sets.

Ticket sales for theaters who perform the musical Mamma Mia! have consistently been strong. In June the show was a smash hit for Moonlight Stage Productions becoming the top performing show in the history of the theater group. That ABBA magic seems to be rubbing off on 3D Theatricals as they’re on the road to it being one of, if not the top, performing production in their history.

It unfolds on a Greek Island paradise on the eve of a young woman’s wedding. She’s on a quest to discover the true identity of her father. It could be one of three different men from her mother’s past. Non-stop laughs and dancing unfold as we take on the explosive trip to find her father. The magic of ABBA’s hits  such as “Super Trouper,” “Dancing Queen,” “SOS,” and many more combine to make this enchanting show a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!

It was a rockin’ good time as the first musical notes rang out, all the way until the glittery finalé. Director David F.M. Vaughn worked his magic, taking a talented group of actors and placing them in roles that breathe new life into a story that many already know. The production direction under Vaughn combined with the choreography of Dana Solimando is a roaring success. It’s the kind of production that lights up the audiences faces, bringing smiles and allowing them to forget all their troubles.

Having seen the both the stage and movie versions of Mamma Mia! a number of times, I can easily say there was one run away hit. Everytime Candi Milo (Rosie) graced the stage she took control and lit up the comedic role. Milo embodied everything that you think Rosie could and should be, making for a rip-roaring fun experience. Whether delivering lines in the funniest fashion, facial reactions to the crazy events happening, or her chance to shine in “Take a Chance on Me,’ she will have you laughing and loving every moment.

But let’s not overlook the amazing talent team of Sophina Brown (Donna) and Flynn Hayward (Sophie). The two deliver an amazing mother daughter relationship. The relationship between the two showed nuances of a mother and daughter who’ve had to rely on each other through the good and tough times. Hayward, in her first professional theatrical production, walks away a true “Dancing Queen,” delivering a performance that will stand as an establishing point in her career. Brown delivers a sound that is beautiful and lively but really brings it home during “The Winner Takes It All.” That performance will have you standing on your feet, wanting her to just keep singing.

The rest of talented cast and ensemble including Clayton Jones (Sky) bring a palpable excitement to this production. Some of that excitement comes from the choreography from Dana Solimando. A show like Mamma Mia! really depends on the dancing. In this case we are treated to a thrilling production from one of the first big numbers “Money, Money, Money,” to “Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie.”

One particular song and dance sequence that really stands out is “Under Attack.” This number in the show is normally not one of my favorites but in this case they really take it to the next level with the creativity. The direction and choreography during this number really adds to the production rather than take away, which normally is not the case for me when it comes to this song.

The lighting from Jean-Yves Tessier is magical, especially combined with all the mirror balls near the end of the production. The costumes from Alexandra Johnson, set design from Stephen Gifford, really take you to the Mediterranean mixing it with the stylings and flashiness of ABBA.

Walking away from this production I was inspired by just how much the audience enjoyed the show. The end of Mamma Mia! had the audience literally on their feet dancing and singing. The joy in the eyes of audience members is exactly what you want to see. 3D Theatricals Production of Mamma Mia! is a success that you most definitely need to check out.
